Greetings,

As we continue our Lenten journey of preparation for Easter, prayer should become more intense and common in our lives. However, sometimes, we are at a loss for words and silence seams more common than words.  Just because we aren’t speaking doesn’t mean our conversation with God has ended. Instead it may have entered a deeper state knowing that our Savior is able to warm our hearts at that very moment. Heart prayer finds us drawn to Him and so inclined toward communion with the Lord that even if we are not talking to him, we are at one with him. Longing for God is something that cannot be generated as a discipline. This connection grows as our faith journey grows and can be seen in how we live out our faith in the world.

Paul reminds us that in our weakness, in our speechlessness, the Holy Spirit of God speaks for us, intercedes for us "in sighs too deep for words." The Spirit talks to God on our behalf, saying the things we wish we could say. The Spirit takes the passions of our hearts and places them at the feet of Christ. The Holy Spirit talks to God for us in sighs that are too deep, too real, and too true for mere words to convey. (Rom. 8:26-27) This kind of prayer is a heart to Heart communication! Thanks Be to God!

Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Robert Robinson, 1758

O God, you are my God, I seek you,
my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands and call on your name.
Psalm 63.1-8

Heavenly Father hear the cries of
your servant and attend unto his prayers,
Lead him to the strength of your salvation
and shelter him under your loving care. Amen
